A shorter post today, just the one card, sent to me by Bill in New Mexico (Hi, Bill!). I know Bill through a soccer forum (yes, internet forums still exist) where we ended up discussing baseball cards. Bill has sent me several Padres cards for my collection, and some Tony Gwynn ones, including this one.
Card Number 25: Bowman 1989, #461
Bowman cards are a fraction bigger than regular trading cards. The Bowman brand ran for a few years from the late 40s until the mid-50s, before being revived in 1989. It's now a Topps brand and is mainly used for rookies and prospects. This card from Bowman's first returning season goes for a retro look, with the close up portrait and the printed signature on the card.
The back is a weird grid thing. I guess there are only so many ways to show baseball stats so kudos to them for trying something a bit different. The stats are arranged to show how well, or not so well, Tony did against other National League teams. It's different, but not particularly helpful.
Total: 25/394
Dang. He really struggled against the Giants in 1988... which is surprising because he hit .351 against them during his career.
